Roberto Antonello (1967) is the winner of the 2nd Interpretation Prize at the XVII International Organ Competition Grand Prix de Chartres 2000, prestigious and aspired competition where he was the only Italian admitted to the final round in the 37 year contest history.

In 1990, he graduated (with praise) in Organ and Organ Composition at the National Conservatory in Castelfranco Veneto (Treviso) and, later, in Choral Music and Choir Conducting. In 1992, he got full marks at Bologna University with a final dissertation in Elements of Harmony and Counterpoint dealing with Cesar Franck's Trois Chorals. He also attended the CNM "Niedermeyer" in Issy-les-Moulineaux (Paris) studying with Daniel Roth, graduating with "Premier Prix d’Excellence en Supérieur d’Interpretation" in 1993.

In addition, he has undertaken masterclasses, in Italy and abroad, with: K. Schnorr, M. Radulescu, H. Vogel, H. Davidsson, M. Chapuis, M. Torrent, P. Westerbrink, G. Bovet, J. Boyer, P. Kee.

Besides Chartres contest, Organ Competition prizes have included a 3rd prize in 1987 and a 1st prize in 1989 at the International Competition Alpe Adria in Lucinico (Gorizia), a 2nd prize at the National Competition in Noale (Venice) in 1991, a 2nd prize (1st prize not awarded) at the Concours Suisse (International) de l’Orgue in Brig in 1998. In 1994, following success in the National Competition for Organ Teachers at the National Italian Conservatory, he was appointed, in the same year, titular teacher for Organ and Organ Composition first in Avellino Conservatory, now in Vicenza where, from 2005, he is also Head of Organ Studies.

He has been broadcasted by RAI1 and some private networks, as well as recorded by HRT (Croatian Television). He recorded the complete C. Franck's organ works (in 3 CD, first recording in Italy and by an Italian performer - FAGOTT Orgelverlag) and G. Viozzi's ones (1912-1984, first recording and score publishing), German Romantic organ works, Italian Ottocento (G. Morandi) and pieces by contemporary composers.

He has given seminars and lessons on several topics concerning organ literature and interpretation (alternatim practice, the French Classical, French Romantic and Late Romantic repertories) for a number of Italian Conservatories and music associations and, as visiting tutor, at the Edinburgh Organ Academy 2005 (Ian Tomlin School of Music - Napier University), teaching with: M. C. Alain, D. Roth, N. Hakim, J. Raas, M. Harris, G. Brooks, J. Kitchen, etc. Moreover, he has been juror in a number of contests for organ and for other instruments.

Beside teaching and concerts, in the last years he has been composing and arranging pieces for different instruments, and he is active as musicologist with researches, printed editions and musical writings. In 1996, he has been invited as lecturer to the Göteborg International Organ Academy (School of Music and Musicology - Göteborg University) to present a paper dealing with Registration in C. Franck's Organ Works. In co-operation with L. Szarán, he was editor of the critical apparatus and the continuo in the printed editions of Vespri di S. Ignacio and the Misa a San Ignacio by Domenico Zipoli (from the 18th century South American Jesuit missions) for soloists, choir, instruments and organ (Ed. Pizzicato) and the edition of Principia seu Elementa ad Bene Pulsandum Organum et Cimbalum (Ed. Missions Prokur Nürnberg - Armelin), a collection of unknown keyboard pieces by Zipoli and other composers from the same countries. His works on South American baroque music gave new repertory to the Domenico Zipoli Ensemble. His latest work is the edition of Giulio Viozzi's complete Opere per organo (Ed. Pizzicato).

He is artistic consultant for some music associations: since 2001, he has been artistic co-director of the Festival Organistico Internazionale "Cittŕ di Treviso e della Marca Trevigiana" for which he edited a number of printed editions and recordings.
